In order to further promote high-level opening-up in running schools and to build a closer international network for music education cooperation, from November 23 to 29, Gan Wudong, Party Secretary of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, was invited to lead a delegation to Hungary and Italy for an exchange visit. During this period, they visited the Hungarian Parliament, Liszt Academy of Music, Roland University, Budapest Chinese Cultural Center, as well as Milan Conservatory of Music and Venice Conservatory of Music in Italy, among other universities and institutions.

During its visit to the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Hungary, the delegation held talks with Dean Gábor Farkas, during which both sides focused on exploring the establishment of a joint educational institution. This initiative aims to integrate the century-old teaching system of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music with the distinctive Chinese music culture of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, jointly cultivating high-level music talents with an international perspective. Gan Wudong emphasized that this move would significantly advance mutual recognition of music education standards between China and Hungary and inject new momentum into people-to-people exchanges under the Belt and Road Initiative.


During the visit to Roland University, Vice President Gábor Csemjén and Commissioner for Asian Relations Hao Qingxin warmly received the delegation. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions on further deepening cooperative education and strengthening teacher and student exchanges, reaching a consensus.

The delegation also visited Zhejiang Conservatory students studying at the Liszt Academy of Music and Roland University.

During the visit to Hungary, the delegation also paid a courtesy call on Dr. Lajos Ola, Vice Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament, and visited the Budapest Chinese Cultural Center. In the talks with Vice Speaker Lajos Ola, Gan Wudong stated that Zhejiang Conservatory of Music has always been committed to serving as a messenger of cultural exchange and mutual learning. He hopes that through in-depth cooperation with Hungary's Eötvös Loránd University and the Liszt Academy of Music, they can build an integrated talent cultivation system, promote the integration and innovation of academia and art, and inject new momentum into China-Hungary music and cultural exchanges. Lajos Ola expressed that Zhejiang Conservatory of Music and the Liszt Academy of Music share highly compatible educational philosophies and talent cultivation goals, and that the comprehensive cooperation between the two institutions will jointly build a vibrant music education community. He will strive to facilitate deep cooperation between the two schools.


The delegation was warmly received during their visit to the Milan Verdi Conservatory in Italy. Professor Massimiliano Baggio, the director of the Milan Conservatory, accompanied them to visit the school library, concert halls, and other facilities. During the discussions, Massimiliano Baggio introduced to the delegation the opera 'Turandot,' which is planned to be staged in China next year, and expressed his intention to strengthen cooperation with Zhejiang Conservatory of Music in opera creation and performance. Gan Wudong stated that, as the birthplace of opera, Italy's artistic resources complement the creative strengths of Zhejiang Conservatory, providing a broader practical platform for teachers and students. The two schools have wide cooperation potential in opera talent training, repertoire creation, and performances. Through cooperation, they can integrate their respective advantages and jointly enhance the level of opera art.


During the visit to the Venice Conservatory of Music, both sides exchanged views on the respective advantages of the two countries' education systems. They believed that there are many commonalities in the concepts of music education and goals for talent cultivation, and they look forward to carrying out specific cooperation in areas such as joint doctoral training. President Fabio Moretti warmly invited a delegation from Zhejiang Conservatory of Music to participate in the school's 150th anniversary celebrations, hoping that through the presentation of wonderful performances, the in-depth exchange between the two schools could be further enhanced and Zhejiang Conservatory's influence in Europe expanded. Gan Wudong stated that strengthening cooperation in the fields of art exchange and teacher-student visits helps promote academic exchange and cultural mutual learning between the two schools, further broadening international perspectives. During the visit, the delegation, accompanied by President Moretti, toured the school and watched a concert by award-winning students.


This visit is an important step for Zhejiang Conservatory of Music in deepening its internationalization strategy during the 15th Five-Year Plan. Through a series of meetings, the conservatory will reach further consensus with renowned European music schools on cooperative education frameworks, credit mutual recognition mechanisms, teacher sharing, and other aspects. Additionally, through the 'China-Central and Eastern European Countries Music Academies Union' platform, it will promote the implementation of more joint research projects and artistic activities. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the conservatory will continue to expand substantial cooperation with prestigious international institutions, using music as a bridge to promote the international dissemination of Chinese culture.
