The School of Humanities & Social Sciences consists of four teaching and research faculty teams: 1) arts, 2) foreign languages, 3) sports, and 4) computer science. It is responsible for teaching general courses such as literature, English, sports, fine arts, and computer science. Currently, they school has a faculty of 24, including 2 professors, 8 associate professors, 12 lecturers, and 2 office clerks. Besides, it also boasts first-class teaching facilities, including professional language labs, computer room and painting room as well as standard track field, table tennis halls, basketball hall, badminton hall, and other sports venues.

 

In terms of talent cultivation, the school pays much attention to developing humanistic education courses and is dedicated to cultivating music talents with both professional and moral excellence. By conducting a general survey, it put forward to offer courses through the platform of ‘College Chinese’, optimized the arrangement of class hours and credits of ‘College Chinese’ courses, and adopted the tier-based teaching model based on students' reality. It also constantly improved the development of ‘College Sports’ courses, set the compulsory credits for the second classroom of ‘Sunshine Sports—Long-distance Race for College Students’, and opened a series of public elective courses for humanistic education. Now, it has developed a system for humanistic education courses with ZJCM characteristics.

 

In terms of teaching research, the school has made constant efforts to improve faculty's teaching capability by organizing open courses, teaching skills competitions, and other activities regularly. Thanks to these efforts, foreign language teachers have won 1 national first prize, 1 national merit prize and 2 provincial first prizes in microteaching competitions; teachers won 3 second prizes and 1 third prize in the school's young teachers' teaching skills competition, 1 first prize, 2 second prizes and 1 merit prize in the school's first microteaching competition, and 1 second prize and 1 merit prize in the school's teachers' teaching innovation competition. Over the past years, the teachers of the school have got approved 5 research projects at the provincial level or above, published 19 papers in core journals and nine books, and led students to win over 100 awards in various competitions.

 

The school attaches great importance to carrying out social services, responding to national and provincial instructions, and maximizing its role as a think tank in humanistic education. In 2017, Professor Zhang Weizhong participated in the legislative drafting of the Regulations on the Protection of Public Cultural Services in Zhejiang Province; PE teacher Ruan Li was selected to participate in the preparation and competition work of the 13th National Student Sports Games, during which he successfully completed the tasks assigned by the Organizing Committee and won high praise. In 2018, Professor Zhang Weizhong participated in the publicity of the Regulations on the Protection of Public Cultural Services in Zhejiang Province and the writing of the book Interpretation of the Regulations on the Protection of Public Cultural Services in Zhejiang Province, and was rated as ‘Excellent Expert of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture’.
