Visa Application
I. Visa
1. X1 visa
International students can apply to embassies or consulates of People’s Republic of China foran X1 visa (study visa) with the Admission Letter from ZJCM, form JW202 or form JW201 and report of health examination for foreigners (for those with more than half a year’s study in China).
2. X2 visa
International students can apply to embassies or consulates of People’s Republic of China for an X2 visa (study visa) with the Admission Letter from ZJSU, form JW202 or form JW201 and report of health examination for foreigners (for those with half a year less study in China).
3. F visa
International students with less than half a year’s study in China can apply for an F visa (Visting visa) for 150- or 180-day stay in China.
4. L visa
International students who fail to obtain an X visa or an F visa for some reasons can apply for an L visa (travel visa) to come to China, then apply for residence permit during the period of validity of the L visa.
II. Residence permit application
International students with X1 visas are required to apply for a “residence permit” within 30 days after their arrival in China. When they apply for residence permit, they are required to submit the report of health examination or the report of permission validation issued by Hanghzou Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, International Travel Healthcare Center.

NOTE: It takes 15 working days for residence permit application, 7 working days for visa application.
2. Materials required for first time application for residence permit
a. The original valid passport and Chinese visa
b. Original copy of Admission Notice
c. Original copy of form JW202 or form JW201
d. The original Health certificate issued by Hangzhou Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, International Travel Healthcare Center
e. The original Letter of Introduction provided by College of International Education
f. One ID photo as the size of passport photo (bareheaded and full-faced)
g. Registration Form of Residence
3. Application for the extension of residence permit
An international student studying in ZJSU whose residence permit expires can apply
for its extension if he/she continues to study in SUFE. The following materials are
required:
a. The original valid passport and Chinese visa
b. Original copy of Letter of Introduction provided by College of International Education
c. One ID photo, the size of passport photo (bareheaded and full-faced)
d. Registration Form of Residence
4. Move of residence permit
The International students with a residence permit in cities other than Hangzhou are required to register the move in the local Public Security Bureau before moving to Hangzhou, free of charge. The holders of a residence permit in cities other than Hangzhou can apply for its extension in Hangzhou.
VI. Service fee and time for residence permit application
1. Service fee
Service fee for the application for residence permit is to be paid to Exit-Entry Administration of Hangzhou Public Security Bureau.
a. 160RMB for a X2 visa application.
b. 400 RMB for a permit valid less than one year (not including one year)
c. 800 RMB for a permit valid 1 to 3 years (not including 3 years);
2. Service time
The service time for residence permit in Exit-Entry Administration of Hangzhou Public Security Bureau is 15 working days.
V. Examination of visa and residence permit
International students and their dependents over the age of 16 in China should carry their passport and ID certificate such as student card with them for possible examination by police of foreign affairs.
If Exit-Entry Administration of Hangzhou Public Security Bureau considers it necessary, it can ask international students to go to Exit-Entry Administration for an examination of their residence permit.
VI. Explanation of visa application
Visa applications of international students are based on the regulations made by Exit-Entry Administration of Hangzhou Public Security Bureau, which is responsible for its explanation.
